this week or so.

~Football players aren't the smartest bulbs in the box. Source: Working in my college's textbook center when they came to pick up their books.

~A friend of mine is a poet and can paint pictures with words. You have some wonderful poems, my friend!

~People will walk around a sign that is in their path to ask where they can get their books instead of reading the sign for directions or observing the arrow on it pointing them in the right directions.

~No matter how ridiculously small the shotgun is, it still has a kick.

~Wax flowers are fun to make!

~Working 40 hours a week is draining.

~I'm very dense when tired.

When pink eye brings life to a smashing halt....at least for 24 hours, things never turn out well.

My day and rest of the week was carefully planned out. Today I was going to rise early, head over to college to sign papers for work, come home clip 2 steers with a brother, organize the show equipment, and then have a good friend of mine over for the evening. Tomorrow is our county fair, so all of the fair prep needs to get done today, not tomorrow.

That was the plan anyway, until I woke up with red and crusty eyes.

"You have pink eye!" my mom declared after one look at me and hearing my description.

So after making a leisurely stop at the doctor's office and drug store, I came home to stay away from anyone or thing in an effort not to infect anyone. So tomorrow my day is carefully planned out in hope to get Hercules tasks all done tomorrow....lets hope it all gets done! :D

I have my photos all ready for the fair! They are printed, taped to tag board, and tagged. :D The only other item I'm taking to the fair is one of those ^ dish cloths. I just have to decide which one. Which do you think the judge will like the most??

Off to try and accomplish much today,

Our county fair is coming up quickly. I am no longer in 4-H, but I am going to still exhibit some items in the open show.

Since I took a digital photography class and have the chance to use mom's really neat camera, I have some photos to take to the fair. The following four photos were simply photos to complete an assignment, but turned out quite well I thought. They will be exhibited under nature.
This photo was snapped while a friend and her younger sister were walking. I love how both girls are wearing blue.
I'm probably also going to take another one, but I haven't decided which one. ;)
I will also be taking one of my embrodidered drying towels that is in my picture up above.
Have you ever exhibited anything at the fair?

I was out walking a couple days ago with Mom's camera. I came back with several photos.

Orion was looking photogenic.
I then tried focusing on a near object and have the back ground be blurry.
Then focus on distance items and have the foreground be blurry.
Yea...random in its strangest form.

Random things today.....

-So I have this mouth problem that the dentist thinks can be fixed with...you guess it! Braces!! Yea...ok....Well, you see, I've already haaaaad braces. So this will be my second go at them. Mom thought he was only talking about putting them in one area of my jaw, so maybe I won't have a mouth full of metal. That would be very nice. Oh, and yea, I'm getting braces just before I start at a new college this fall. And a week before I turn 20. Lovely. I am very glad this should take care of the problem, but I just really don't want braces again.

-Mom found some veeeeeeery nice fabric for the Jane Austen style dress I'm making. The fabric is light pink with delicate pink embroidered flowers on it. :D

-Blanch and froze another batch of green beans!

-Transplanted my Kohl crops to larger containers.

Keeping busy,

Since I work in a grocery store, I see a lot of strange things. We have several checkers that are under 18 which means they cannot sell a*lochol (and possibly t*obacco, I just can't remember) by state law. So to solve the problem of having customers come to them and get annoyed over not being able to buy those products, the store management has created a sign that can be hung over the young person's lane to avoid this.

So as I was getting off work last night at the grocery store, I noticed this sign was up; however, the checker herself was obviously not younger than 18. The woman has pure white hair and is a pleasant grandmother type! It was a good chuckle to end the day of work on.

Today I woke up today with a cat saying,
"FEED ME!!! NOW!!!" by pushing a wet nose in my face, walking around me non-stop, and meowing at me.
An couple hours later, I got a phone call saying that our cattle were in the neighbor's corn field. So for the next couple hours we ran around a corn field trying to get them where we wanted them. So after only catching a couple head and being quite wet, we called it quite for the day.

I did get the food dryer cleaned before I left for work, but that is ALL I got done around the house.

I'm about to call it night and hope tomorrow goes better.

Yesterday I was swamped with things to do and all I was doing was gardening, putting away food, and doing homemaking things. Since yesterday (and today!) was going to be a hot day, I started by picking my abundant green beans (one of the successes in my garden), my few peas, and a few more mulberries. After lunch, I made made jelly from the sour cherry juice I made a couple days before. Since I didn't have enough juice, one batch is straight sour cherry, but the second one is sour cherry and apple juice. Here is the jelly just before I mix it all together and then put it into the containers.
Seven containers total!

After a quick run into town to the library and the bulk food store, I worked on my green beans. Here they are all clean and cut up.
I blanched them and put them into freezer containers. Seven more!
At some point around supper time, I added all that I could/should be doing....it was something like this - finish cleaning and cutting up the beans, blanch them, put them in the freezer, take the laundry off the clothesline, take the laundry out of the dryer, move laundry from the washer to the dryer, put laundry in the washer so that I have a clean uniform, make supper, do dishes, clean the fruit dryer, make fruit leather,....you get the idea.

The fruit leather/cleaning dryer didn't get done, so that's my task for this morning before I head off to work. How does mulberry with some black caps that need to be used up and some applesauce to make it more spreadable sound?? I haven't made fruit leather before, so who knows how this will actually turn out.

Enjoy the day,

Bethany

One of my goals for the summer was to plant, take care of, and process the food. My garden isn't going as well as I had hoped, but this is my first year doing this. At this point I'm really glad something is growing. My first peas and green beans are ready to be picked.

Another thing that I'm trying to do is use the produce that is growing around our farm like rhubarb, sour cherries, black caps, red raspberries, mulberries, and anything else. When the rhubarb was in season, we made rhubarb pies, rhubarb cheesecake bars, and rhubarb-strawberry freezer jam.

Now our sour cherries, mulberries, and black caps are in season. We have picked and picked our extremly small cherries and overly abundent mullberries.
We made a pie out of the cherries and yesterday I took the remaining cherries and juiced them in this thing.
Here is the juice in canning jars. I will hopefully make sour cherry freezer jelly tonight after work.
Off to work!

Mom and I picked our cherries. We will be making a pie with them and hopefully some jam or jelly.
I wanted to make red, white, and blue cupcakes for the 4th of July, but I didn't have the time. So last night I made them. Yummm!
As I was gutting our second to last chicken this Spring, the picnic bench fell apart. Or more like one of the benches fell on my foot. Ouch! And we decided that it was finally time to get ride of it. So here is the old one and the new one. :D

Have a good night!

Prayer is Needed

If you haven't heard already, the Midwest is being hammered by rather severe storms and rain, rain, rain, rain, rain, and more rain. Last Saturday and Sunday severe storms rolled through dropping an amazing amount of rain over Iowa and Wisconsin. Several towns were flooded, roads were shut down, and much damage was done. We were rather wet after that weekend, but the only very obvious remains of the rain on our land was an extra pond.

Then today came with more thunderstorms and RAIN!

More towns are underwater. The list of roads shut down due to water damage is growing. So many roads are shut down that emergency crews can't even get to emergencies, like burning houses (how can a house burn with this much rain?) and cars that are floating down the street. We are currently under a state of emergency and need your prayers for the Midwest.

On a more personal note, our basement was flooded today while I was at work. And a couple of our fences went down the stream.

Trying to keep dry!

Tagged

I’ve been tagged by some friends a loooong time ago.So here's my facts...

1. I wanted to be an astronaut every since I went to Space Camp in Huntsville, Alabama.

2. I have two posters on my wall: one of the earth from space and one with an astronaut standing on the moon.

3. I dislike it when people try to convince me to cut my hair for locks of love.

4. I love going barefoot! I normally don’t wear anything on my feet when I am home except when it gets really cold in the winter, such as below zero.

5. I’m a little bit of a sci-fi geek. ;)

6. I can sit on my hair.

7. I can’t sing and clap along to a song at the same time.

I tagged: Anyone that hasn’t already done this and is visiting my blog.
